RCGP substance abuse and associated health
The Royal College of General Practitioners is now launching the Certificate in Detection, Diagnosis and Management of Hepatitis B and C in Primary Care Part 2 course. The aim of this course is to build on the Part 1 certificate and to further increase primary care clinicians’ confidence in this area, through the establishment of a cadre of viral hepatitis champions - skilled in assessing hepatitis, monitoring treatment, managing side effects and potentially developing local services for the community management of hepatitis B and C in collaboration with colleagues in secondary care. Launch of GMC interactive learning disabilities website
Over half of doctors believe patients who have a learning disability generally receive a poorer standard of healthcare. The new site aims to help doctors provide better care for people with learning disabilities by:
- identifying the issues and challenges doctors can face and providing advice on how to tackle them
- highlighting the perspectives of patients with learning disabilities and giving tips on communicating with them effectively
- advising on how to work effectively with carers.

Operating Framework for the NHS 2012/13
On 24 November 2011 the Department of Health (DH) published the Operating Framework for the NHS in England for 2012/13, the first full year of the transition to the proposed new structure for the NHS.
